    Minutes from August 22, 2026 Laymen's meeting

    The Laymen’s in-person gathering was called to order by Dea. McCall, followed by the invocation prayer led by Dea. Jimmy Lawson.

     

    Training and Discipleship

    The group discussed the training and development of the Laymen’s Ministry, with particular emphasis on the importance of godly education for those serving in leadership. Several qualities were identified as essential, including:

    • Humility
    • Daily study of God’s Word
    • Exemplary Christian conduct
    • A commitment to discipleship and spiritual growth

    Curriculum

    Dea. Gaston shared that the Sunday School Publishing Board has a publication that can be used as part of the curriculum for training. The website for the resource is SSPBNBC.com. The first lesson selected for study is “Godly Living in a Secular World.” Pastor Henry Davis will provide the training material for the group.

    Recuitment and Retention

    The group also discussed strategies for the recruitment and retention of senior and youth members within the congregations. Pastor Henry Davis emphasized the critical role of the district secretary in accomplishing these goals. It was noted that the secretary must be willing to dedicate the necessary time to communicate with churches, chairmen of deacons, and youth department leaders in order to facilitate and strengthen these ministries. Pastor Davis also committed to assisting.

    Scripture Nugget

    The meeting included an encouraging Scripture Nugget presented by Dea. McCall, based on John 3:16–17. The theme of the message was “The Re in Me,” and it provided an excellent spiritual reflection for those gathered.

    Closing

    Pastor Henry Davis concluded the meeting with words of encouragement and prayer. We give thanks to God for a productive gathering and for the opportunity to strengthen the Laymen’s Ministry through training, discipleship, recruitment, retention, and Christian fellowship. The date and location of the next gathering will be announced on this website as soon as they are confirmed.
